Q : Briefly tell us about your company, it??s history and what kind of services do you offer?
A : Founded in 2008, Susan Leinen Design began as a way for me to use my graphic design skills to meet the needs of friends, family and non-profit organizations that needed these services. I found that web solutions were also needed and so I began to develop my web design skills as well. One of my clients, Hunter Douglas, opened the doors for me to begin working in the interior design community with their clients nationwide and I have had the opportunity to work for many interior designers and home furnishings companies by providing both web design and graphic design. Keeping up with the current trends in web solutions has also allowed me to stay current with social media marketing for small businesses. I have had the opportunity to help my clients through social media consulting as well as to present social media seminars to groups in Southern and Northern California over the past year. .
Q : Your design inspires us, what inspires you?
A : That is a great question! Because of my background in art education, I know that inspiration is often a result of collaborative effort. I find that in talking with a client, especially if I can do it in person, I can often tap into their aesthetic values by asking questions about color, shape, font, etc. If I can pull this information from my client, then I find I have much more success in pleasing them with a design. When I ??hit the wall?? on a particular concept that I am trying to portray, I find that prayer is my best option; I never fail to be inspired when I tap into The Source!
Q : How did you come up with your concept for a vertical business card with foiling?
A : My client??s logo seemed perfectly suited for the vertical format; I love that she wanted to let the logo stand alone on the front of the card and put the contact info on the back. The foiling on top of the dark gray ink gave us the best of both worlds. The white background on the back gave us the ability to add the QR code and see the beautiful Star Dream stock and the dark gray ink was a perfect contrast for the shiny foil logo.
Q : Why did you select Star Dream for this project? Have you ever printed on metallic paper before? What are your thoughts on this paper versus other stocks?
A : I love having the MorningPrint sample stocks to show my clients when we talk about their business cards; they get excited about all the possibilities. A well-designed card that will stand out is critical for my client, Elizabeth Ribons, as she is an Interior Designer. The Star Dream with the foil was just enough sparkle and drama to promote Elizabeth??s company branding and leave a memorable impression. This was my first experience with a metallic paper; I love the finished look! It is important to have a variety of both stock and finishing techniques to offer; this allows me to work with each client to design a card that is unique and beautiful.
Q : Why did you add a QR code? How did you make the QR code? Do you have any tips for adding QR codes?
A : The QR code on the back of the card contains the contact information for Elizabeth??s company, Environments Design Group. I used a free QR Code generator on http://qrcode.littleidiot.be. Creating a vcard will enable mobile phone users to scan the back of the card in order to add Elizabeth??s phone, website and email information right into their contacts. The QR image cannot be altered much or it will become unreadable; it is also important to keep a white margin around it. I always test QR codes on several different phones using several scanning apps to make sure the data is being read in appropriately; there will be some variation.
Q : Did you experience any difficulties when using MorningPrint.com, or find anything to be inconvenient or inefficient? Any suggestions you can offer us to help make the customer experience better?
A : I haven??t had any problems working with MorningPrint. My clients have been pleased by the quick turnaround and shipping time.
